4.0 - Beta "Kagune"
July 8, 2025
Major Release

Overview

In this release, the system is hardened by default, significantly enhancing security. The new hardening structure is specially designed to balance everyday usability with robust protection. The Tor infrastructure and interface have been completely redesigned to be much more stable and secure. Additionally, the system automatically cleans all traces upon shutdown, maximizing user privacy.

New Features

  • Moneronis - A CLI menu tool that simplifies Monero usage.
  • Paranoia - Now enforces much stricter network isolation.
  • New Applications - Qtox, LibreOffice, Kleopatra, and KeePassXC have been added.
  • Securonis Cleanup - Cleans all traces from the system on shutdown, including swap and RAM.
  • Securonis Antifingerprint - Services that make digital fingerprinting detection more difficult.
  • Seconionis - The infrastructure has been redesigned for improved security and stability.
  • New GTK Router Menu - Now much easier to manage with the new GTK menu.
  • UFW and Haveged - Enabled by default.
  • Firescorpion Browser - Now has more secure and stricter settings; new extensions added and existing ones updated.
  • Root0 Hardening - Flexible hardening services added that apply network and system hardening settings at every startup.
  • Armor Hardening - Hardens permissions of critical system files at every startup.
  • Security-misc - Security settings forked from Kicksecure, but significantly relaxed due to their strictness
  • Anonboot - A simple tool that generates a random hostname at every startup.

Improvements

  • Bug Fixes - Minor bugs in some tools have been fixed.
  • Kernel Upgraded - Default kernel upgraded from 6.12.31 to 6.12.33.

Removed Features

  • ProtonVPN - Proton VPN has been removed due to access restrictions in some countries that prevented updates.
  • Tor Browser Bundle - Tor Browser was removed because it caused Tor-over-Tor issues when used alongside the routing service.
  • OpenMammoth Lite - OpenMammoth Lite was removed as it was unstable and redundant.
  • System Hardening Settings - Hardening settings were removed since the system now includes balanced hardening by default.

Bug Fixes

  • Minor but important bug fixes have been implemented, improving system stability and performance.

Firescorpion browser is an extremely hardened browser. You may occasionally experience issues on some websites.

The system does not enable AppArmor in live mode due to Debian's policy; it becomes active once the system is installed.

Please share your feedback so I can ensure there are no issues with the hardening settings.

Developer Notes

3.0 is the biggest update so far and the most stable version. I strongly recommend upgrading.

Firescorpion browser is an extremely hardened browser. You may occasionally experience issues on some websites.

Firescorpion scored strong in EFF tests and is a strong Tor alternative when used with Seconionis.

If you encounter any issues, please let me know. I cannot improve Securonis without feedback.

I know 3.0 came out a bit early, but 2.6 had many bugs. All of them are fixed and many new features have been added.

I conducted tests with both new and old devices, with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Securonis didn't experience any issues.

We use the open-source NVIDIA driver. For NVIDIA closed-source drivers, type nvidia-driver-guide in the terminal.

AppArmor isn't active in the Live system. It becomes active once the system is installed.

As a single developer, I couldn't maintain both MATE and GNOME. Unfortunately, I had to remove GNOME.

Do you like Securonis new website and logo? I made everything from scratch. More modern and aesthetic.
